Biography

Alexandra DeLuise joined the Housatonic Community College family in Fall 2022. She currently teaches courses in the English Department – including Composition, Literature & Composition, and the Composition Workshop – and serves as one of the faculty advisors of the Art Club.

A Connecticut native, Professor DeLuise began her own educational pursuits at Gateway Community College. After graduation, she transferred to Fairfield University for her BA in English and later — after a brief stint in banking — received her MA in English from Southern Connecticut State University. Currently, Professor DeLuise is a doctoral candidate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and will receive her PhD in Composition and Rhetoric upon completion of her dissertation, titled Toward a Gateway Pedagogy: Multimodality and Rhetorical Flexibility in First-Year Writing. This work has informed much of her teaching, which focuses on collaboration, rhetorical flexibility, and community-building.

Prior to her time at Housatonic, Professor DeLuise taught at Gateway Community College, Southern Connecticut State University, University of New Haven, and University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has taught a range of first-year writing courses, as well as specialized composition and rhetoric courses on topics such as literacy and community writing.

When she is not in the classroom, Professor DeLuise loves to read, explore nature, and spend time with her husband, two children, and menagerie of animals – currently two rescue dogs, a parrot, and a cockatiel.
