Biography

Asher Albaz is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Housatonic Community College. He has been a member of the faculty at Housatonic Community College since 2010. Prior to joining HCC he was a Professor at Yavapai College in Clarkdale Arizona. He has a Master’s of Business Administration and Accounting degree from The University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor Degree in Economics from Hunter College in New York City. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). He is a member of the Association of Fraud Examiners (ACFE). Professor Albaz joined the academic community possessing a great extensive experience working in industry as an accountant and a controller.

Professor Albaz is professional, approachable, personable, respectful, and interacts well with all members of the college community especially students. He is a teacher and a mentor, guiding students

In pursuit of learning as well as careers. In 2016 he was nominated for an Educators of Excellence Award from The Connecticut Society of CPAs. In order to improve teaching and students comprehension of accounting, he promotes the use of technology such as: MY Accounting Lab. Professor Albaz also developed a new course: Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination.

He serves as the Coordinator of College Career Pathway (CCP) partnering with local High Schools students earning college credit in Financial Accounting Courses, thereby supporting and promoting the relationship between the local institutions and HCC. He is an active member of the Connecticut Society of CPAs (CTCPA), the American Accounting Association (AAA), and the Association of Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges (TACTYC). Professor Albaz invests a great deal of time and energy in professional development by attending several conferences each year to improve his teaching skills.

He is continually partnering with transfer organizations and community partners, specifically, VITA and the China Project. This project includes collaborating with three-year higher education schools in China for student and faculty exchange programs. Additionally, his contribution to the college also includes serving on several committees: Planning & Assessment Committee, Curriculum Committee, Sabbatical Committee and College Senate.
