Professor of English as a Second Language
Maria Stiebel Roche has been teaching English as a Second Language and other English courses at Housatonic Community College for over forty years. During these four decades, she has taught over 3,000 students from over 40 countries around the globe. She holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Overseas English from Indiana University and a Bachelor’s degree in French from the University of Cincinnati, along with a Graduate Certificate in Reading Program Management from the College of New Rochelle. She likes learning languages, most recently attempting Japanese so she can feel comfortable when traveling to visit her son, who is teaching English in Kobe, Japan. She believes every American should learn a foreign language, just as every immigrant makes an effort to learn English. So much to learn, at every age.
