HCC Introduces Sim Man teaching aide
A six foot, 125 pound state-of-the-art simulation manikin is the newest addition to the HCC teaching department. The Smart Stat Basic Simulation, Sim Man, has detailed anatomy and will allow teachers to accurately train students in learning vital health processes such as cardiac and lung sounds, bilateral thoracic decompression sites, bilateral chest tube insertion points, blood pressure monitoring, and full airway management. It can also manage cardiac crises, ECG monitoring, IV access, and drug therapy.
The simulation is controlled from an iPad app which provides control over 12 pulse points, heart rhythms, respiratory status and much more.
Sim Man will assist the teaching in HCC health care courses such as Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Nurse Aide, Patient Care Technician and Medical Assisting programs this spring.
Joseph Jenecaro, HCC coordinator of Continuing Education says, “This device enhances vital elements of health-care education. It will engage our students in creative, realistic problem solving and reinforce their skills. We are grateful to the TAACCCT (Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career and Training) grant for the Northeast Resiliency Consortium for the purchase of this anatomical teaching device.”
Continuing Education courses using Sim Man will start beginning February 22, March 2, and April 18. For further information, additional dates and course detail contact Continuing Education 203-332-5057 or visit the web site http://www.housatonic.edu/ce/index.asp
