High School Students Invited to HCC STEAM Event
On Saturday, Nov. 7, Housatonic Community College will hold a special, interactive event for area high school students, 9th to 12th grades, to participate in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) learning experience.
HCC is joining the nation-wide effort encouraging young students to enter the STEAM areas of study. These studies are projected to meet the near-future demand for skilled employees as companies compete to be efficient and innovative in providing goods and services throughout the world.
The event takes place in room A101 in Lafayette Hall at the college from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Featured are hands-on activities and exhibits. Re-registration takes place at 8:30.
All STEAM components will have hands-on exhibits and cover a range of topics from Blood Diseases, to Defying Gravity, 3-d Geometric Configuration and much more. Students will be able to hear and ask questions of professors and experts in the field.
Additionally, students will participate in a Team Challenge, “Building our Identity.” Lunch will be provided at noon, prizes awarded and students will have special tours of the Burt Chernow Art Galleries and of the HCC Manufacturing Center.
Robin Avant, HCC instructor of Biology/Molecular Biology, says, “This event will enrich and engage students in all STEAM areas with hand-son activities, exhibits, a team challenge, and information about our Bridgeport community efforts.”
Students may respond to email@example.com. Students may attend by themselves or with a parent or guardian.
