More Than 75 Percent of Grads Find Jobs
Still Openings for Fall Semester
BRIDGEPORT – On the eve of its second anniversary, Housatonic Community College’s new Advanced Manufacturing Program has compiled an enviable track record.
As the manufacturing industry in the region continues to make a comeback, some 76 percent of the one-year program’s graduates have found employment, said Regional Advanced Manufacturing Center Program Director Michael Gugger. “The expected starting salary for these graduates is in the $32,000-45,000 range,” Gugger said.
In the two-year period ending in May, Gugger noted, 87 percent of the 94 students who enrolled in the full-time program completed it. In addition, 48 more students took non-credit courses offered by the center.
The one-year advanced manufacturing program offers comprehensive broad-spectrum training in basic and advanced manufacturing. This full-time program, which requires a 35-hour per-week commitment from students, offers the 21st Century manufacturing skills needed by today’s manufacturers. It offers a thorough grounding in computer-aided design (CAD), blueprint reading, manufacturing machining, and computer numeric control (CNC).
In addition, the advanced manufacturing center offers a variety of stand-alone courses designed to help incumbent workers strengthen and hone their skills in desired areas. These courses include Manufacturing Math I, Introduction to Lean Manufacturing, Metrology, Computer Applications, Career Awareness, Solid Works, and CMM.
Registration for the Advanced Manufacturing Program’s Fall semester is going on now. The day program is filled, but there are still openings for the evening program. For more information, contact Kimberly Wood at 203-332-5098, Bill Griffin at 203-332-5056, or Gugger at 203-332-5963.
