Biography

Since 2006, Rachel has been part of the Math/Science teaching team at HCC. Additionally, she served as "STEAM Initiatives Coordinator" organizing HCC's STEAMfest 18 and STEAM Research Abroad in Honolulu, HI.

Her studies in the 90s earned her a State of Connecticut teaching certification in Secondary Education, in conjunction with a Bachelor's in Biology. Prior to teaching at HCC, she was a Full Time Teacher at Fairfield Ludlowe High School where she earned tenure in addition to the achievement, "Highly Qualified Teacher" as evaluated by the Connecticut State Department of Education.

She now has her M.S. in Biology, is an Associate Professor, and is celebrating more than twenty years in science education! She serves as Faculty Representative to the HCC Foundation and is also Chair of the College Senate.

Her passion is the implementation of discovery-learning in lab settings where students can research and learn through inquiry.

She considers it an honor to have come alongside thousands of students as they have learned not only about Biology, but also about themselves.
